Abstract
Indonesia’s tourism continues to grow in the past few years, many destinations is getting known. However not all destinations successfully introduce and promote their identity and uniqueness even though it is one of the most important factor to support destinations successfulness. Therefore, this research was conducted to understand the formation of destination image on a tourist destination and see the impact of destination image towards tourists intention to recommend. Research was done on Belitung which is one of the developing tourist destination in Indonesia. The model used is based on an evaluation of cognitive, affective, overall image of destination image and intention to recommend. This research will be done with quantitative approach by distribution of questionnaires directly to the tourists at Belitung. The finding shows that conceptualization of destination image through cognitive component, affective component and overall image can be applied on Belitung. Cognitive component affect affective component, then cognitive component and affective component also affect overall image which directly affect tourists’ intention to recommend. Therefore, this research is an empirical evidence that destination image can directly affect tourists’ intention to recommend.
